Nutrition of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

High Phenolic olive oil, the original superfood!

extra virgin olive oil benefits

This delicious polyphenol rich plant based food has been a staple in Mediterranean kitchens for centuries, but beyond its culinary uses, its very well known for its science backed health benefits.

So, what are the nutritional benefits of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and why is it considered so healthy? EVOO is the healthiest fat.

Dietary fats are an essential part of a healthy diet. They provide us with energy, help us absorb important nutrients, improve cell growth and create important hormones.

The main fatty acid found in Extra Virgin Olive Oil is oleic acid which is a mono-unsaturated fatty acid. Oleic acid. Oleic acid has only one double bond in its chemical structure, which reduces the risk of oxidation and contributes to the high stability of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

In addition, it contains a good amount of Vitamin E and vitamin K and over 30 polyphenols. It is these polyphenols that make it the healthiest fat off all. It includes a unique set of bioactive phenolic compounds not found anywhere else in nature. It Is these impressive polyphenols that are the real key to its stability and health benefits

High phenolic EVOO is the healthiest and highest quality extra virgin olive oil.

HP olive oils are made from unripe green olives harvested early in the season, which are processed using specific methods that preserve their high phenolic content. They must pass sensory and chemical tests plus a chemical analysis of polyphenol levels.

High phenolic is the name for scientifically measured extra virgin olive oil relating directly to the health claim regulation (432 / 2012)“olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress” The health claim was put in place to help support the consumer in purchasing EVOO and increase awareness in healthy food choices.

Legislation clarifies that only extra virgin olive oils which contains at least 5mg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives (e.g. oleuropein, oleocanthal and tyrosol) per 20g of olive oil may use this health claim. This means that only olive oils with total polyphenols of 250 mg per kg can put a health claim on the label.
The health claim has helped set standards for quality and transparency in the industry.

These health-promoting properties have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-atherogenic, anti-thrombotic effects which have been shown to reduce morbidity and reduce risk / slow down the development of cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases as well as cancer. Thousands of published studies have helped connect the dots between daily intake of high quality extra virgin olive oil and improved health.

Each of these specific polyphenols found in extra virgin olive oil give your body important nutritional benefits that help keep your body healthy and contribute to a long and healthy life.

So how high is high?

An olive oil is phenolic content depends on the olive variety, how it was farmed, timing of harvesting, transportation, production methods and storage conditions.

The Governor was the first ever to be awarded the health claim. It was scientifically tested at the University of Athens and compared with the results of 700 other olive oil samples, from 30 different olive varieties from around the world. It was found to contain 7 x higher than the average samples.

Due to the high phenolic content and quality, it was chosen for its 1st trial and continues to be chosen to participate in many medical research/clinical trials for various chronic diseases such as lung and breast cancer, leukaemia and Alzheimer’s.

The Governor EVOO contains consistently between 1000-1500 mg / kg (total phenols) 1000 mg / kg (Oleocanthal and Oleacein) These phenolic antioxidant compounds have been found to possess powerful anti-inflammatory properties which have been associated with decreased inflammation, improved cognitive function, lower incidence of diabetes, and improved cardiovascular health.

In comparison to other extra virgin olive oils you may find in the shops they can vary significantly and range from anything between 50-250 mg / kg

Anything above 250mg/kg qualifies for a health claim. Regular refined olive oil contains only a trace of polyphenols which are completely removed during the refining process. A tiny amount of extra virgin is added back in afterwards to improve palatability.

Let's talk calories

Olive oil contains 120 calories in 1 Tbsp which is exactly the same as any other vegetable oil or animal fats like butter but not all calories are Created Equal!

Providing the body with the essential fats and nutrients it needs to function at its best helps you feel fuller and satisfied for longer. It therefore decreases the urge to snack on nutrient empty and calorific foods like biscuits, bread, fast food and fizzy drinks.

It also helps you to avoid eating trans fat found in refined vegetable oils and products made from them. These oils interfere with the biochemical processes in the body which can lead to serious health conditions.

Incorporating EVOO into your cooking makes veggies and salads taste better, helping you increase the foods that help you lose weight and improve your health.

If you are concerned about calorie consumption, you can enjoy all the polyphenol benefits in high phenolic olive oil and less oil.

I have been using The Governor evoo for 5 months now with my 7 year old daughter who is on the spectrum, since using it I have seen an increased calmness in her and her ability to sit still has improved. I put this down to it being the early harvest and having high polyphenols which help lower inflammation….. based on current research I believe most people would benefit from a daily dose of what I call liquid gold

The Governor has been so far studied for...

The polyphenols in the Governor EVOO are measured by NMR - Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. NMR is very expensive to use but it is proven to be the most accurate way for producers to identify their olive oil as high phenolic olive oil.

The oleocanthal concentration in EVOO can vary considerably. This is due to several factors, including the variety of olive, geographical location of the olive trees, olive maturity when pressing, cultivation and production techniques.

OLEOCANTHAL

Oleocanthal is the most important health-promoting molecule in extra virgin olive oil,
and The Governor contains one of the highest concentrations of Oleocanthal ever recorded.

Oleocanthal, a natural compound found in extra virgin olive oil, has been gaining attention for its numerous health benefits. Extra virgin olive oil containing the highest levels of oleocanthal is considered to be particularly beneficial for overall well-being.

Studies have shown that oleocanthal possesses anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, similar to ibuprofen but without the side effects. This makes it a valuable component in promoting heart health and reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

Incorporating extra virgin olive oil rich in oleocanthal into your diet not only adds flavour to your dishes but also contributes to your overall health. Its potential to reduce inflammation and support brain function makes it a valuable addition to a balanced diet.

Experience the superior quality and purity that only The Governor can provide - your path to a healthier tomorrow starts now.
